Doesn’t last long… but there’s a fix.

We’ve been through 5 of these in about 6 years. With each, the volume dial becomes less and less reliable, randomly turning off in the middle of the night.

That being said, remove the 4 screws from the bottom and spray electric contact cleaner on the bottom of the volume knob. This has fully resolved the volume issue for over a year

 I live in a noisy household and I needed something to drown out sound when I’m inside my room. This little sound machine does a pretty good job for the price. I like the adjustable sound so that when things get louder outside I can turn up the white noise. It has 6 sounds, but I prefer the plain white noise.
One thing I do notice is a slight tone every few seconds on white noise setting. With time your brain gets used to it, but I do notice it sometimes.

I have purchased six of these machines over the past four years. So obviously I like them. I use one in my room, and one in each of my children’s rooms. I also take them to the grandparents house for the girls sleeping.

Price. This is one of the least expensive sound machines one can find.

Portability. This machine is quite small, and easily fits into diaper bag or suitcase when traveling.

Noise level volume. A lot of more expensive sound machines do not go as high in volume, which is most important to me in a white noise machine.

Ease of use: my 2 1/2 year-old can easily operate the sound machine.

Battery Compartment. For the life of me, I can never get the batteries to stay in, because the battery compartment inevitably opens and I lose battery or two. I have tried taping the battery compartment shut, but eventually the door loosens, and the batteries pop out a little bit. It doesn’t impact me that much since I primarily use the AC adapter, but I would like it to be a little bit more reliable where I to be traveling.

Longevity. I presently have six of these machines, two of which should be going in the trash, but I simply cannot bring myself to throw them away. After about a year of use, consistently they have stopped being reliable. A few times they will just stop randomly in the middle of the night having nothing to do with power or being bumped or anything. Simply a flaw in the longevity of the product. For this reason I’m going to be purchasing a couple different machines to try out.

Overall this sound machine is excellent. I use it for at least 14 hours per day, for it to last a year is a great accomplishment for that much use. It is reliable until that year mark and has so many great features. I do highly recommend it especially if you will be using the AC adapter primarily.

I suffer from insomnia and this has made an incredible difference in the amount of time it takes me to fall asleep (it was about an hour and after a week of use I’m down to about 20 minutes). I also don’t wake up as many times during the night. I love how the volume is adjustable and how the machine offers more than just white noise. My favorite sounds are ‘rain’ and ‘summer night.’ High quality sound that doesn’t sound overly digitized. I’ve yet to utilize the portability option but I love how that’s an added feature! I highly recommend this product even if you’re just considering it or if you have doubts. It’s changing my sleep schedule for the better!

I never leave bad reviews, but this thing is awful. I bought it for my daughter because we have a new upstairs neighbor with small children who sometimes run around at night. Bought specifically for white noise. It is not white noise. There are other noises in the white noise that are like some kind of psychological warfare. There is a chime and a hum and clicking replaying every few seconds on a loop and they sound like they are coming from somewhere else in the room. My daughter was having nightmares and not sleeping. I had to get her a lamp, a night light, and a dream catcher to convince her Michael Myers wasn’t coming in her window. Then I slept in her bed with her and heard the noise machine and it was MADDENING. I thought I was losing it. It sounded like it was in the walls, in my head, in the bed frame. I finally turned it off and realized it was the machine. No wonder she was waking up scared. Get a sleep easy fan powered sound machine for white noise.

Here’s the thing: this sound machine is amazing in that the White Noise sound is loud enough that my kid sleeps through my dogs barking, parties in our living room which is just down the hall from his bedroom, and fireworks on the 4th of July. We’ve used it every night since he was born and he’s now two. BUT, and this is kind of a big but, it stops working after like 9 months or so. We’re on our THIRD ONE! Why do I keep buying this thing if it keeps giving out on me? Because I don’t have to ever tell guests, “Shhhh! My son’s sleeping!” or worry about the FedEx guy knocking and setting my dogs off in a frenzy that will wake my son. BECAUSE NO SOUND CAN GET PAST THIS MACHINE. It’s that good. Till it’s bad. Still gets 4 stars because moms love sleeping kids! Now, HoMedics, get your s&*t together and figure out how to make a product that lasts a little longer please!
