Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for The Adam Project, its upcoming sci-fi film starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Free Guy) as a time-traveling fighter pilot who must join forces with younger self.
The teaser opens on a 12-year-old boy named Adam (Walker Scobell), who is struggling with the apparent loss of his father (Mark Ruffalo) and getting into trouble at school, much to the concern of his mother (Jennifer Garner). One night, Adam is visited by a strange man (Reynolds) who knows his way around his house, has the same scar as him and is wearing his father’s watch. Before long, Adam puts two and two together and realizes that this man is actually his future self.
The elder Adam soon tells his past self that time travel does indeed exist. He explains, “This world, our world, everything has already been changed” — and that it’s up to them to “put the genie back in the bottle.” The two Adams even manage to reunite with their father, seemingly as a result of further time travel.
Directed by Shawn Levy from a script by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, The Adam Project is slated for release on Friday, March 11. In addition to Reynolds, Scobell, Ruffalo and Garner, the film stars Catherine Keener, Zoe Saldaña and Alex Mallari Jr. Netflix’s official synopsis reads: “After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self on a mission to save the future.”
